Sarah F. Covert
Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs

After completing an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Dartmouth College and a doctorate in bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Covert was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Arizona and the University of Georgia from 1991-1993. She joined the tenure-track faculty in UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources in 1993, was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2007, and became a full professor in 2008. Her research focused on the molecular genetics of fungal pathogens of trees and agricultural crops. Covert served as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Warnell School from 2009-2014. Her responsibilities as Associate Dean included oversight of student affairs, instructional programs, and promotion and tenure within the School. Covert was appointed UGA’s Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs in 2015, and upon an expansion of her responsibilities, became an Associate Provost in January 2016.
As Associate Provost she supports hiring, promotion and professional development for UGA’s 3000 full-time faculty and 300 part-time faculty.
